Nez Perce Cultural Camp
Language and Cultural Camp
Nez Perce Cultural Camp is a coordinated effort and the Nez Perce Language Program is a proud partner of this annual event. nimipuutímt is the heartbeat of our culture, and remains an important part of Cultural Camp. Language staff take part as teachers and camp counselors, as well as organizing cultural activities involving language.
Cultural Camp is a fun and memorable way for kids to learn about Nez Perce traditions, stories, history, and language by taking part in it. The purpose of Cultural Camp is to engage our youth, giving them a greater appreciation for the rich heritage of the Nez Perce people so that they can continue to express that culture and carry it to future generations.
Wallowa Lake United Methodist Camp in Oregon has been the location of Cultural Camp not only for its beauty, but also its historical significance. It gives youth an appreciation for the the size and diversity of traditional Nez Perce homelands as well as the diversity of the family bands that lived there.
